Cultural Programming and Projects

The Dassel History Center serves as a cultural hub for the community, featuring visual arts, theater, literature and humanities-related programming.

Fence Murals

Paintings done by thirteen artists with ties to the Dassel area illustrate the essence of life here.  From highly realistic to whimsically abstract, each mural features an aspect of the community through the eyes of the artists.  These amazing works provide free, accessible public art to residents and visitors.

More Local Art

The History Center has showcased pieces done by local artists including Mamie Falk, Earl Di Marco, Rose Edin, Rodger Brodin, Lynda Peterson, Lonny Jensen and others.

Theater

In cooperation with the Dassel-Cokato Arts Association, local performers stage quality performances, including musicals, comedy, and drama in an intimate, comfortable venue.  Tiered risers provide for excellent seating.

Literature

The DAHS recently published the book Main Street Kids, a delightful collection of stories from more than fifty individuals whose parents owned businesses in Dassel from the 1930s to the 1970s.  The center has other books available on the history and heritage of Dassel and the Meeker county area.   Books are available for purchase at the Dassel History Center.

Cultural Programming

A wide variety of programming at the History Center have celebrated the traditional heritage of the community and also explores cultural experiences less common to the area.  These programs may have come or gone, but their positive impact on our city remains.
